What Academics Are Saying About Mori Bar-Ron's Scholarship

“Rabbi Michael Shelomo Bar-Ron is an outstanding scholar of the Tanakh and Talmud.  I am currently working with Michael on a research project related to the Israelites in Egypt and the development of the Proto-Sinaitic/Proto-Consonantal script discovered in Sinai and the Nile valley. I have found him to be an excellent scholar with tremendous enthusiasm for biblical history and religion.  He has helped me enormously in terms of research for my own book writing and television work.”

   — David Rohl, Egyptologist, archaeologist, author and TV presenter.

Former tutor in Ancient History at University College, London; Director of the Institute for the Study of Interdisciplinary Sciences, Editor of the Journal of the Ancient Chronology Forum; Field Director of the Eastern Desert Survey; Archaeology Correspondent for the Daily Express; now retired.

“Having known Rabbi Michael Bar-Ron and his careful research since some time, I highly recommend his "Torah Defense" course to you.  While like myself he seeks to establish sound synchronisms between archaeology, modern science and Hebrew Bible, he never jumps to his conclusions before having critically studied the evidence.  His work is a must for all those, who love the Scriptures and their antiquity.”

- Dr. Pieter Gert van der Veen, Ph.D.   Deputy professor of Biblical Archaeology, University of Mainz.  Head of the Biblical Archaeology study group (ABA) of the German Research Foundation Studiengemeinschaft Wort and Wissen e.V. (Baiersbronn, Germany)

Rabbinic Approbations

Song of the Creator

“Through his deep understanding coming from pure Da’as Torah (understanding of Torah), he has proven through it in a truthful way and through correct reasoning that all the words of our holy and pure Torah are true, and we have nothing greater than the words of this Torah.”

— Avraham Yerachmiel Rabinowitz, Grand Rabbi of Ostrova-Biale

“Rav Michael Shelomo Bar-Ron… the world of Torah scholars and laymen owes him a great debt. … This book helps to illuminate the beauty of the vessel of Torah – showing how the structure of the words, themes, and parshiyot all come together to form a cohesive whole, with symmetry and splendor.”

— Rabbi Saul Zucker, Principal of Magen David Yeshivah High School, Teaneck, NJ

“It is an astonishing work of Torah thought, filled with creativity, insight, and חידושים… Every word is eloquent testimony to the design of the Creator and to the unique gift that He bestowed upon the Jewish people.”

— Rabbi Steven Pruzansky, Rabbi of Congregation Bnai Yeshurun, Teaneck, NJ

Oral Torah from Sinai

“…a masterpiece of scholarship… an invaluable contribution to works on the Oral Law. His proofs and demonstrations are compelling and profound; they reflect serious scholarship and thorough research.”

— from the Haskamah of Rabbi Saul Zucker, Teaneck, NJ

“I saw in the content of his words that all his teachings are correct and strong, founded on the path of the holy Torah….”

— from the Haskamah of Avraham Yerachmiel Rabinowits, Grand Rabbi of Ostrova-Biale

“…addresses key, burning questions and difficulties of lay people and Torah scholars alike.”

— from the Haskamah of Rabbi Shlomo Kassin, Dean of Shehebar Sephardic Center

Guide for the Noahide

“In a clear, thunderous voice of truth, Rabbi Bar Ron guides his readers... without deviating right or left.  Like a fearless prophet, he has conscientiously chosen to appease no one but the Torah, carefully avoiding any pressure to sound politically right or to drift into esoteric interpretations and unwarranted messianic visions.  I think that Rabbi Bar Ron’s ‘Guide for the Noahide’ is a ‘must have’ to every sincere person who wishes to learn the Seven Noahide Commandments.”

— Rabbi Dr. Zvi Aviner Author of "Sod Siach" on the Torah

About "Beth Midrash Ohel Moshe"

As a community, we have evolved considerably, no longer identifying purely with the teachings of the RaMBaM (Rav Moshe ben Maimon of blessed memory).   We now see a much broader "big picture".    Nonetheless, we are still rooted in precious, invaluable gems of the RaMBaM's philosophy and his invaluable description of applied Torah law, per his traditions and genius.

To this day, we are proud of our early achievements at that stage, as "Beth Midrash Ohel Moshe" (meaning “house of teaching”).  This was the brand-name of my educational work, when we acted as a group of Orthodox Torah educators and hardworking Jewish fathers and grandfathers in Israel, dedicated to spreading authentic Torah -- particularly the teachings of the RaMBaM.

The unifying goal, then as it remains today: to inspire and help Jews and non-Jews to live by the eternal principles of the Torah in a way that is both authentic, broadly-informed and wise.  All so that our children might inherit a healthier, more normal Torah world (in the eternal eyes of the Torah) than the one we grew up in.  One that embraces oft-overlooked or unrecognized values found in the Torah -- namely universalism, ecology, health, warriorship, and more.  One that accepts the findings of confirmed modern science, the challenges of academic scholarship, and the modern State of Israel.

Our work included, then as in now, providing Torah teaching, community (only online today), as well as hard-to-find religious articles (tephillin, mezuzoth, meghilloth, Torah scrolls) for sale, and, at that time, a Sedaqah (charity) fund for the needy.

The work inspired these 'haskamoth', letters of endorsement, from rabbis we still hold in high esteem.

"In all sincerity, I could not recommend his mentorship more. Besides for being a tremendous Torah scholar in the classical rabbinic sense, he also brings to the table a formal background in anthropology, Near East history, biblical academia/scholarship, and a number of sciences..."

Daniel Edelstein - Cardozo School of Law in New York

Testimonials

"Rabbi Bar-Ron's teachings have been instrumental in my teshuva [return to Torah observance].  His teachings make all the difference between believing and knowing. ... Rabbi Bar-Ron's system is more than simple "proofs" used by kiruv rabbis today, but a whole new approach that others would be wise to catch on to."

- Sgt. Ben Israel (IDF) Israel

"As a student of languages and different religions, all my life, after doing my own, objective homework on his arguments and the wonderful sources he gives, I find the Rabbi's defenses of our tradition unattackable on any side.  I owe my path in Torah largely to Mori Michael's guidance."

- Ma'or Farnessi Milan, Italy

"The benefit to my knowledge of Torah, its clear and evident         relationship to the real world, current science and everyday life, has been indescribable.   "Mori Michael Shelomo Bar-Ron has developed a metaphorical 'martial art' for dealing with information. ...   "This opens up the entire world of Torah, Biology (including Evolution), Astronomy, and History as branches of the same greater tree of wisdom... And he always ties it back to the morality and ethics we should all seek to implement, stemming from the source of all, the singular Creator."

- Shane Fox Kentucky, USA

"Mori Michael gives his students an intelligent and rationally solid approach to Torah that could set your feet on the right Path like stone pillars.  His classes are enlightening and will equip you with fundamental principles which satiate the scientific and intelligent mind.  Without those principles, intelligence alone just cannot give you a perfect grip on your beloved faith, due to the number of scientific attacks on it. ...in these classes, Torah, logic and Science; they are best-friends."

- Elisha Razon Manila, Philippines

First of all I’m very glad I found such a teacher as Mori Bar Ron.  It was at a time that I after many years, was about to leave Torah/Bible behind, and everything that has to do with religion.  Through his teachings he showed me the Torah in a new different way, I learned things I had never heard of.  It showed me not only what the Torah tells us, and how amazing it is that HaShem made all there is, but that He is still involved with humanity.

- Hansje Netherlands

"I once read in a book that "when a teacher capabilities are not properly utilized the whole world suffers, not just his pupils and their level of Torah scholarship".  I assure you:  Mori Michael is such a good Torah teacher and a humble person that I suffer when I have to miss his classes."

- Loretta Rome, I

"I can only begin to express my gratitude to HaKadosh Barukh Hu [God] for granting me the opportunity to study with Mori Bar-Ron. ... We have been refreshed throughout the years with heartfelt answers to pressing hashkafa questions.  "I cannot count how many times Hashem has tangibly blessed us through the Torah wisdom and personal kindliness of Mori Bar-Ron.  He has continually deprived himself of sleep to provide his students meaningful and exquisite Torah shiurim, enjoining us to strive higher..."

- Ray Hughes Salt Lake City, USA

"His classes are very educational and easy to follow.  Also regarding the “conflict” between science and Torah, he shows in a very dynamic and with basis that there is no real conflict between those topics.  The purpose of his classes, bringing the light of understanding that HaShem is One and that we are here for a reason, is priceless."

- Yael S. Santiago, Chile

"Participating in these classes have given me a more balanced view on the Torah.  My family and I have benefited greatly from Mori Michael Shelomo’s knowledge and perspectives.  Also, his great sense of humour and his inclusiveness creates a really good atmosphere in his very active online classes which consist of people from all corners of the globe."

- Ole Mads Sirks Vevle Bergen, Norway

"I have been attending Mori's Torah classes since 2011 via GoToMeeting.  Mori Michael Shelomo has taught us so many invaluable learning skills and shown us a consistent approach to Tora.  Having a rav like Mori Mikhael has helped my wife and me learn and grow in a responsible way.  The class covers the weekly Tora portion and then dives into halakhah with real-life examples, interwoven with mussar and academic proof."

- Matthew K. Kansas, USA

"I have been a student at Ohel Moshe for over five years. ... His insight of Torah and Halacha immediately appealed to me.  Our family, being orthodox and of Yemenite descent, was glad to welcome his teachings and vast knowledge of Torah, science, history and everyday life.  He is a true scholar and a Talmid Chacham [Torah scholar]."

- Eric Fromme Florida, USA

"...I found a great teacher, wise, learned, happy, warm... with a friendly, committed and serious group.  I hope our encounter with emotion each week... he inspires us to be better each day and all in light of the Torah, the RaMBaM and the authentic touch of Yemeni and Sephardic tradition, interwoven with science.  At each web meeting we have with the Mori, I discover many essential points as to how Torah and science explain one another, making our weekly study fascinating."

- Luis Amaya Bucaramanga, Colombia

"Through his amazing ability to speak to his audience, Mori Bar-ron brings a non-condescending, knowledgeable tone that inspires the scholar in his students...  His diligence in reaching out to marginalized members of the Orthodox Jewish community and his love of the Benei Noach have distinguished him among Torah scholars...  He embodies the very essence of what Am Yisroel represents:  a man of Hashem, a light unto the nations.  If building the world is like stacking bricks, then his efforts have effectively built a significant section of a holy wall that in time, will serve to protect and surround ours and all righteous people of the world.  It is our prayer that G-d continue to bless his diligence and hard work with continued success for the future of our people."

- Mikhael and Teshua H. Israel

"I have deep gratitude and appreciation for Beth Midrash Ohel Moshe’s Torah classes since they gave me a full view of the true faith; an insight into how Noahides, not only Jews, can gain true Torah wisdom and spiritual contentment.  It also gave me a chance to understand Creation in truth.  This class is where science and Torah ask the same questions and think the same thoughts; realizing that both are not to be seen as separate or antagonistic areas."

- Cel Manila, Philippines

"This class is truly the highlight of each week for me for several years.  In fact, despite having studied Torah for over 20 years now, I learn something new from Mori Bar-Ron every week!"
